Corners - why can't players consistently cross from a corner?
How many times do we see highly paid players who can't cross a corner into the box either near post, middle of 6 yard box or to the far post?

No run up, or a soppy attempt at a curling fucking thing that ends up lamely getting into the 18 yard box and easily defended then cleared.

Take a proper fucking corner and give your side a chance to get on the end of it.

Re: Corners - why can't players consistently cross from a corner?
Player practice all sorts of things besides the match but in all the years I've been going to Football I can honestly say I've never seen any player take a corner pre-match. Ever.

Why not?! They practice shooting from unrealistic lay off positions from 18yds, how hard would it be to jog over and swing 4 or 5 corners in? Particularly as each run up is different in the Premier League with various obstacles and climbs to negotiate.

Never understood this.

The amount of times my boys finished my sentence every time we took a shit corner!
"Always beat the first man."
Amazing how many players fail that simple task.

They do seem to mess them up a little too often, considering they are able to train on them every day if they wish.
Andy Hinchcliffe used to be the best corner taker IMO.

No its not hard to do Baggins, whip it onto the pen spot,12 yards out, keeper got to come through the crowd to get it, and defenders struggle if its got a bit of pace on it, bloody simple really!!

I do wonder if our pitch has something to do with it.

Players can't do more than a two step run up without having to run up a sloped path.

Re: Corners - why can't players consistently cross from a corner?
Of course they can loft a ball into the six yard box. Anyone can do that.

The issue is they have to cross it fast and reasonably flat while avoiding the 6 foot plus defenders bunched at the near post and not giving the 7 foot keeper time to come and catch it. It's much harder than you think. Which is why they fuck it up so often.

Agree with wanstead, outswingers are lethal

Re: Corners - why can't players consistently cross from a corner?
Laurie Cunningham used to take them from the left with the outside of his left foot and they used to turn in and dip sharply at the last second. Almost impossible to defend Can't be that hard to copy

It's psychological.

Although in the modern world, the reasons probably won't be understood and most definitely won't be accepted.

Stanislas did OK?

My boy has scored THREE times direct from corners. Left foot, right side-corners seems to confuse the other lads.

Just a matter of talent. Noble is pretty crap, though. Oh, and Zarate. Personally, I'd train-up Cresswell for corners. He'll have time to get back to a decent position.

Said this Saturday, fucking shocking they cannot beat the first man. And for a change it was not Noble taking them!! Was always taught to aim for the pen spot at school boy level.

Weird strikers taking corners.. Defoe did it too.

The best corner taker I ever saw was Jimmy Greaves, during his Tottenham days. Every time he took a left foot in-swinger from the right wing, Spurs looked like scoring.

Re: Corners - why can't players consistently cross from a corner?
I've often wondered this.

At least two of Zarate's corners on Saturday were fucking woeful. Didn't even make it to the near post.

I was a pretty shit footballer BUT I could almost always deliver good corners right into a dangerous area without fail.

Why don't you just ask why Noble keeps taking them?

I think the problem is people forget there are defenders.

Do you really think players can't take a corner?
